This post reports in a tabular form Mr. Yanagiya’s strategy for one-meridian deficiency or excess. Diseases are addressed by assessing (through pulse taking) and then treating the meridian out of balance using a selection of Shu-points chosen according to the five elements dynamics (essentially sheng and ke cycle).
This post aims to enhance your knowledge of the five shu points.
According to this modality of treatment, after the meridian out of balance has been determined using pulse reading, in case of
(a) deficiency (xu)
- the horary point on the mother is tonified
- the tonification point on the affected channel is tonified
- the horary point on the ‘”controlling” channel is sedated
- the controlling element point on the affected channel is sedated

(b) excess (shi)
- the horary point on the controlling channel is tonified
- the controlling point on the affected channel is tonified
- the horary point on the “child” channel is sedated
